Friends of Hackmatack NWR was pleased to be invited to speak at the Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee’s 29th Natural Landscape Seminar in February. The WPPC has been a strong advocate for Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge since the beginning of the effort to bring a refuge to our own backyard. Board members Steve Byers and Nancy Williamson were the final speakers of a day-long program featuring national experts on the seminar’s theme of Tending the Earth.
Before the talk, the WPPC announced they would be making a donation to our Friends group and challenged those present to match it. Seminar attendees matched the $500 pledged by the WPPC many times over, by literally throwing cash at the volunteers staffing the Friends of Hackmatack NWR booth. Thank you to WPPC and all those attending the seminar for your support and for all you all do to provide the patches of habitat nature needs! We are proud that Hackmatack NWR is an ever-growing stepping stone in that quilt of habitat we are restoring together.
