Learn about the large-scale restoration of a large wetland basin owned by Openlands that is tributary to Nippersink Creek. The location is the 6600 Block, East Tryon Grove Road, Richmond, IL (look for signs).
Steven Byers with FOHNWR and Dave Kraft with Hey and Associates, Inc. will provide an overview of the project; describing removal of field drain tiles, installation of rock weirs, and installation of nearly 20,000 wetland plant plugs. Dave is planning to launch a drone and share the images on a large screen as he describes steps taken to restore the site’s hydrology.

This event is also featured as a Its Our Fox River Day event with the Friends of the Fox River. The Friends of the Fox River promote protection and restoration of the Fox River’s resources – and the water quality of the river and its tributaries – by connecting people with nature through education, research, restoration and advocacy.
Come early, FOHNWR will be grilling hot dogs (meat & veggie) and providing cold drinks. Bring a lawn chair to get comfortable. Please register for this event HERE or using the RSVP button at the top of the page. In case of inclement weather, the event will move to Lost Valley Visitor Center. We will alert all those who have registered to any change in plans earlier in the day on Sept. 8.
